The marly, calcareous and tuffaceous soil allows the roots to develop very deeply, guaranteeing the ripening of the grapes even in the absence of irrigation. The steep slope of the terrain and the winds that blow from the bottom of the valley towards the top of the hill prevent any water stagnation. Here, the Albarossa vine expresses its power of colour, body and alcohol content to the full. Campone vineyard: north/west exposure, where white marl alternates with areas richer in iron and clay. The Albarossa from this soil stands out for its elegance and finesse. Vinification: The overripe harvest of the grapes softens the characteristic tannins of the Nebbiolo and the acidity of the Barbera. The must obtained from the pressing is left to macerate in contact with the skins for a week in large steel tanks at temperatures between 25° and 28° C. Frequent pumping over allows excellent colour extraction and good body. After malolactic fermentation the wine is placed in barriques for 12 months, followed by a further 12 months in 20 hectolitre barrels and 1 year of bottle ageing. Tasting: The colour is an intense, deep, almost impenetrable ruby red. The nose is immediately warm and enveloping, with intense scents of blueberry, small red berries and notes of roasting and leather. On the palate it is round and full; the great concentration of fruit, supported by a tannic profile, makes it an important but very pleasant wine. The underlying composition guarantees this wine longevity and drinkability. Combinations: It marries superbly with the most typical dishes of Monferrato culture, especially if meat-based. Recommended serving temperature: 18-20° C.
