Red wine - Donnafugata - Sherazade Nero d'Avola Sicilia Doc Format: Glass bottle 75cl Intro: Sicily is one of the most wine-producing regions in Italy, together with Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Apulia. Sicily's wine-growing traditions are ancient and date back to the Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks and Arabs. Sicily boasts numerous indigenous grape varieties such as frappato, nero d'Avola, inzolia, catarratto, nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio, malvasia delle Lipari and moscato d'Alessandria (zibibbo, from the Arabic zibib meaning 'a raisin'). Vineyard: Espalier training with spurred cordon pruning, leaving 6 to 10 buds per plant. Planting density of 4,500 to 6,000 plants per hectare and yields of approximately 75-85 quintals per hectare. VintageIt paid off thanks to favourable climatic conditions on the whole. The recorded rainfall was 1,016 mm compared to an average of 665 mm. The rainfall was concentrated in the autumn and spring (between the end of April and the first ten days of May), providing the soils with a good water reserve, which in some vineyards was supplemented by emergency irrigation. It should be noted that of the 1,016 mm of rain recorded, 150 mm occurred at the end of the harvest, in the last week of September. Temperatures were mostly in line with the average of recent years; only in June was there a peak of heat that slowed down the vegetative phase, which then - thanks to the return of temperatures in the seasonal averages - has regularly resumed its course. From a quantitative point of view, there was a slight drop in production compared to 2021; the quality of the vintage is overall very positive. Harvest: The Nero d'Avola destined for the production of Sherazade was harvested between the second half of August and the first ten days of September. Vinification and ageing: Fermentation is carried out in steel with maceration on the skins for about 6-8 days at a temperature of 24-25°C. Once malolactic fermentation has taken place, maturation follows for about 4 months in tanks and then in bottles for at least another 5 months. Tasting notes: Brilliant ruby red colour with violet reflections Sherazade 2022 presents a fruity bouquet with hints of fruit and in particular cherry, accompanied by delicate spicy and balsamic notes. The fruity notes return pleasantly on the palate; a red wine of great softness and excellent freshness. Caressing tannins complete this fragrant and pleasant wine.
