Sicily's wine-growing traditions are ancient and date back to the Phoenicians, Romans, Greeks and Arabs. From these vines are produced the famous Etna DOC. The province of Caltanissetta is home to one of Sicily's most recent DOCs, the Riesi Marsala is a historic DOC that takes its name from the municipality of the same name in the province of Trapani. Grapes: Frappato Soil and climateAltitude 120-150 metres a.s.l.; slightly sloping terrain; sandy soils interspersed with calcareous tuffs and medium-textured soils; pH 7.7, total limestone 21%. The 532 mm of rainfall recorded confirms an above-average figure of 409 mm; some of this rainfall occurred in June, favouring the attainment of an excellent vegetative-productive balance and the ideal ripening of the grapes in terms of both phenolic and aromatic characteristics, a prerequisite for wines of particular finesse and fragrance. Harvest: The Frappato harvest began on 2 September from the youngest vineyards and ended in the third ten days of the month. The quantity produced was on average with that of recent years; the quality fully met the company's objectives. Vinification and ageing: Fermentation takes place in steel with maceration on the skins for about 8-9 days at a temperature of 24-25°C. Maturation for about 4 months in tank and at least 5 months in bottle. Tasting notes: Ruby red in colour with violet reflections, Bell'Assai 2022 presents on the nose floral hints of rose and freesia, followed by by fruity notes of strawberry. The palate is fresh and fragrant with soft tannins and a pleasant return of fruity notes. LongevityBest enjoyed over 3 to 4 years.
